Discovering the Book

A client thought his book was about his career. The book was actually about his resilience to overcome failure, his courage to rebuild each time. And where that led him.

A client thought her book was about her successes in her life and the places it took her. The book was actually about growing and learning, finding new places to take root.

There are times I work with an author who knows exactly what they want their book to be. In these cases it is usually a culmination of their work – many years of blogging and newsletters, years of public speaking or podcasts.

But there are times we discover the book on the way. Like an iceberg, there’s just part of it peering out of the water and we’ll discover the rest of it on the journey. Pull it into the light.

That’s part of the process of working with a ghostwriter – finding the way to adapt your ideas, your memoir, your podcast, into a journey that works on the page. Something that intrigues the reader and brings them along for the ride.

You don’t need to know the entirety of your book. But you have to be willing to explore and discover.
